It’s time to make the gluten-free donuts! Dunkin’ Donuts announced yesterday that it plans on jumping on the gluten-free bandwagon. The fast-food change will begin offering gluten-free goodies by the end of the year, according to a Bloomberg article.
So what is Gluten and why are soo many U.S. consumers freaking out about it? Gluten is actually a protein that can be found in a variety of grains and many packaged and processed foods. Over the past decade, business owners have scrambled to appeal to the 1% of Americans that are actually allergic to gluten and the other 99% that would prefer not to consume it.
The new gluten-free menu options will be cinnamon-sugar donuts and blueberry muffins. Dunkin’ Donuts followed in the steps of other fast food chains such as Domino’s which rolled out a gluten-free crust this year.
Those with Celiac’s disease are cautioned to make sure that the gluten-free options were not exposed to any gluten at all.
