Stress Awareness Triggers And How To Get Rid Of Stress

overwhelmed-employee.jpgDid you know that yesterday was “National Stress Awareness Day.” In honor of this day, it might be a good idea to
take a time out to relax and review some reasons why it is such a good
thing to keep the stress monster at bay…your waist line, heart, family
tree, and rosy outlook on life will thank you.

*Stress leads to weight gain – Yes, it’s
true, and it’s all about that nasty hormone “cortisol”. When we’re
stressed, our bodies go into overdrive on releasing this little bugger,
which then tricks our neurotransmitters into making us crave sweets and
carbs. Diet sabotage for sure. Instead of worrying about your weight, consider exercising to control that stress and shrink your waistline in the process. As always, consult with a physician before beginning any exercise program.
*Increased blood pressure – During moments of high
stress, or bodies release adrenaline and cortisol, which in turn put us
into “fight or flight” mode. Our hearts beat faster, blood vessels
constrict, and next thing we know, there is a spike in our blood
pressure. Also, one theory posed by WebMD on heart attacks is that they
could be caused,in part, by prolonged exposure to cortisol and
adrenaline. Think of what things are stress triggers in your life that you can do without? For instance, are you over-committing? See what you can cut out of your life. Also, when you feel your stress level rising give yourself a time-out from the situation.
*Stress can cause infertility- Studies
have shown that women who are under stress are more likely to have
problems ovulating regularly, therefore narrowing the window where they
are able to become pregnant each month. On the guy’s side, it has shown
to decrease testosterone.
*What was I saying, again? – yes, you guessed it,
stress can affect your memory. Also, long term exposure to stress an
cause anxiety, depression, sleep interruptions, all things that can keep
you in a mental fog.
