Installing a Basketball Hoop in the Driveway

By August 21, 2012April 14th, 2022No Comments

Do you have children at an age where they are ready to take on the sport of basketball? One item that may help them succeed in this sport besides the ball is a basketball hoop. But what if you don’t have one in your yard? You don’t have to resort to going to the park every day. Instead, you can install one into your driveway for little money and for a whole lot of fun!

All you need is a spot in your driveway to place the hoop, the actual hoop, a shovel, and cement. To get started, you can find a basketball hoop from your local sports store. Once you select one that will work for the skill level of your child now and for years to come, you can dig the hole at the end of the driveway. It is important to check the ground you are installing your hoop into to make sure that it is flat and level. Once this is done, dig a hole that is at least two feet deep, two feet wide, and two feet long. To secure the stick of the hoop, your best option is to pour drying cement down the hole.

After being filled with cement, insert the pole into the cement up to 18 inches. In order to make sure that the pole is absolutely straight, hold levels to each side of the pole. Make sure to give the cement 3 to 4 hours rest before assembling the rest of the basket. Then you can attach the actual basket and backboard to the top of the pole. The last step is to check that the cement is fully dried, and then your family and friends can begin shooting balls safely.

The joy of the summer weather is that it allows you to spend time outside with your children. Once your basketball hoop is installed, you can start playing immediately, showing the kids tricks and moves for the game. At Ron Jackson Insurance Agency, we hope you find an area in your driveway that is safe for basketball games and activities. The last thing you want to happen is a family member or friend getting hurt on your property. By ensuring everyone follows the rules of the game, you can let the fun commence!
