Ron Jackson Insurance’s Tribute to Michigan

116967.jpgYesterday, we raised more than a few eyebrows over a typo on our blog. If you did see it, than this is a blog for you. If you didn’t, it’s still the blog for you whether you call Michigan home or not.

Here are all the reasons why we love Michigan and some fun facts:

1.  The world’s largest manufacturer of magic supplies is based in Colon, Michigan.

2.  Wolverines are a rare sighting in Michigan. It was over 200 years
before someone spotted the furry mammal back in 2004. But, we’re still
hanging on proudly to our title, “The Wolverine State.”

3.  Michigan boaters are honest. As a matter of fact, Michigan leads the nation in state boat registrations.

4.  Michigan is the only state that touches four of the five Great Lakes.

5.  Michigan is the birthplace of baseball legend, Ron Jackson. Which is our company’s founder and namesake.

6.  Enjoying that bowl of cereal? Michigan is the birthplace of dry cereal thanks to a mistake the Kellogg brothers made.

7.  The first air-conditioned car was manufactured in Detroit, Michigan back in 1939.

8.  Michigan State University was the nation’s first land-grant university which led to the establishment of 69 land-grant institutions. You’re welcome Oklahoma State University.

9.  Michigan has a floating post office that has been delivering mail since 1874. Talk about door-to-door delivery.

10. The largest crucifix in the world is located in Indian River, Michigan.

11.  Michigan’s state motto is: If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you.

12. Michigan has 116 lighthouses and navigational lights. This is because Michigan has the longest freshwater shoreline in the world.

13. You are never father than 85 miles away in Michigan from a Great Lake.  

14. Michigan got its name from the Native Americans words “Michi-gama” which means large lake.

15.  If you live in Michigan you might be called a “Michigander” or “Michiganian”
